I am a farmer in Bolton, where my family has farmed for more than 80 years. I am writing to endorse Ken Swanton’s run for a seat on Harvard’s Board of Selectmen. As a lot of his experience is in Bolton, I thought I would give you some of his background.
Ken and I first met when we both served on Bolton’s Planning Board. During that time, several bylaws and zoning changes were adopted, yet the one I remember most was the Farmland and Open Space Zoning, which Ken drafted and successfully presented at town meeting. This was the beginning of our working relationship that continued during and after my tenure on Bolton’s Board of Selectmen. Ken and I worked together (with others as well) in many preservation efforts in saving several of Bolton’s farms. The Nashoba Valley Winery, the former Schultz farm (currently owned by the International Golf Course), the Schartner farm, and even my family’s farm have been permanently preserved through these efforts.
Ken has always been good at pulling people together to make things happen and has always had a relentless passion. Ken would be a strong addition in serving the people of Harvard.
