It’s been a great season, farmer Paul Willard told the Press this week, but he expects a frost when the next “cool down” comes through town. The vine crops—pumpkins and squash—are already dead of powdery mildew, a disease that strikes plants annually and for which there is no effective treatment. “There’s nothing you can do about it,” he says. “It comes sooner or later.”

PYO is over for the season. McIntosh, Granny Smith, Empire, Roxbury Russet, Macoun, Fuji, and Cortland apples available in the store. Also in the store are pears, plums, peppers, parsley, cabbage, winter squash, kale, gourds, and pumpkins. Wagon rides to PYO pumpkins on weekends, 11-4.
