The Bromfield varsity boys’ soccer team came away with its second win of the season over the Littleton Tigers, with a 2-0 victory on Sept 12. Sophomore Omar Al-Homsi paved the way for Bromfield with the only two goals of the game.
Bromfield took the lead within the first minute as Al-Homsi scored the game’s first goal, unassisted. From that point on, the Trojans held their lead, playing strong defense against the Tigers. At the same time, however, Littleton was showing just as much prowess, despite the early goal. Both goalies, Ben Cadman of Bromfield and David Tornell of Littleton, ended the first half with four saves apiece.
Even with its stellar defense, Bromfield still had issues in communication, which led to a bundle of passing miscues that played right into Littleton’s hands. After a couple of plays almost led to Littleton’s tying the game, Bromfield called for timeout with 20 minutes and 35 seconds left in the half. Littleton had more chances to score after the timeout, but their shots fell short, going over or bouncing off the Bromfield goal’s crossbar.

Bromfield capitalized on Littleton’s difficulties as Al-Homsi headed the ball in for his second goal of the game on a pass from freshman Reilly Fitzsimmons, making it a 2-0 game. That lead would stand by the end of the first half.

As the second half opened, the Tigers took the offensive as they tried to get back in the game. Bromfield’s Cadman however, made sure the 2-0 lead would stand, as he made four more saves for a total of eight for the game. Bromfield’s defense did its part as well, making good plays to steal and keep the ball away from Littleton. The Trojan offense, however, was unable to add to its first half total.
With three minutes remaining, Littleton called a final timeout. But after the players returned to the field, Bromfield clung to its lead and walked away with a 2-0 victory.
The win left Bromfield with a 2–1 record for the season. The team was scheduled to play its next game against Tahanto on Monday, Sept. 15.
