It is with regret that we note the resignations of Marie Sobalvarro from the Board of Selectmen and Bob Thurston from the Finance Committee.
During her four-plus years as a selectwoman—two of them as chairwoman—Sobalvarro won the respect of her colleagues for her calm, reasonable, and civil approach to town business. Her financial acumen will be missed in the coming months as the selectmen continue to grapple with a range of short- and long-term issues, from the financing of multiple capital projects to the challenge of meeting our health benefit obligations to town employees.
Bob Thurston has been a member of the Finance Committee for seven years, during which he has provided a welcome perspective and continuity to the work of that committee.
We join the town in thanking Sobalvarro and Thurston for their service, and wish them both well.
