Former resident, Bromfield basketball coach
Harry V. Scribner Jr., 89, of Leominster, died at home Tuesday, June 10, 2014. He is survived by his three daughters, Donna J. Sauve and her husband Andrew of Shirley, Darlene S. St. Pierre of Pepperell, and Darri G. Wenning and her husband Albert of Leominster. He is also survived by his brother Alfred Scribner of Texas, 12 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Pauline B. (Roberts) Scribner.
Harry was born in Beverly, the son of Harry V. and Esther (Dearborn) Scribner. He grew up in West Acton and moved to Harvard following marriage to Polly in 1947. Harvard was their home for 36 years, prior to living in Sterling for 15 years and retiring to Leominster in 2002. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a gunner’s mate 3rd class, and graduated from East Coast Aero Tech School in Lexington in 1953. After many years in a variety of professions, Harry worked as a custodian for the Harvard Public Schools for 20 years before retiring. He also drove school buses for Nashoba Regional Schools and Harvard Public Schools. He was a former Commander of the Acton Veterans of Foreign Wars and for nine years was a very successful coach of the boys’ junior varsity basketball team at the Bromfield School.
A calling hour will be held on Saturday, June 28, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West St., Leominster.
