commercial development
The Economic Development Committee will host a public forum to present and discuss development plans for Harvard’s commerical district Saturday, June 14, from 10:30 a.m. to noon in Volunteers Hall at the Harvard Public Library. The commercial district is on Ayer Road, extending roughly from the Route 2 ramps to the town’s border with Ayer. Town Planner Bill Scanlan will present designs showing how the commercial district could change in the next 10 years. Some of the potential changes might include bike paths and retail stores such as a pharmacy and a grocery store. The forum will also discuss the impact of commercial development on comparable towns such as Lincoln, Townsend, and Westford. The Economic Development Committee describes the event as a “Town Hall-style forum allowing residents to voice their ideas, opinions, and experiences in a very interactive environment.”
Take the Master Plan survey
The Harvard Master Plan Steering Committee invites residents of Harvard and Devens to complete the survey, “Analysis of Key Issues,” by June 6. It is available online and by mail upon request. The survey takes 15 minutes to complete and covers topics vital to Harvard’s character, including housing, commercial development, public facilities, town center, transportation, conservation, and Devens. Residents of Harvard and Devens can access the survey at www.HarvardMasterPlan.org/Survey. Paper copies of the survey are also available by request: send your name, address, and telephone number to Master Plan Survey, Town Hall, 13 Ayer Road, Harvard, MA 01451.
Watson scholarship for college students
Second- and third-year college students are invited to apply for financial assistance from trust funds left to the town by Sarah Watson. Applications are available at the selectmen’s office and must be returned to the trustee by July 1. Attorney David Taylor is the sole trustee of the Sarah Watson Trust and will be making final decisions this summer.
Sale at Unitarian Church thrift shop
Bargains in the Belfry will be closing for the summer on June 10, so from June 1 through 10 everything is half price. The shop will be open Tuesdays, June 3 and 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays, June 1 and 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Bargains in the Belfry is located upstairs in the Harvard Unitarian Universalist Church, on the Common.
