No cable TV schedule this week

Due to a breakdown in broadcasting playback equipment, the cable TV programs that would normally be shown on Channels 12 and 13 for this week are unavailable. However, some meetings will still be recorded, broadcast live, and later uploaded for viewing on YouTube. The Community Cable Access Committee reports that repair of the playback unit will likely be completed by next week.

Support temperance in Harvard

It is 1829. The time has come to rid our town of the evils of ardent spirits, of the demon rum that causes poverty and madness. You are invited to a meeting to form the Harvard Temperance Society to be held at 7 p.m. on the evening of Thursday, May 15. The meeting will be moderated by Reverend Alisha Samson and will have notable speakers such as Dr. Eliakim Holman, Reverend Jonas Gilbert, and retailer Calvin Haskell. Unfortunately, the Ezra Wetherbee Tavern is not available, so we will meet at the Still River Baptist Church, 215 Still River Road. The meeting will be followed by conversation and by refreshments that will appeal to both those who will sign the pledge that night and those who may still have to settle with their consciences. Of course the meeting is free, but donations will be appreciated, as they will help us to pursue further meetings of historical import.

Harvard Help needs volunteers

Harvard Help, a group that provides rides to Harvard residents, needs volunteers. It is a one-day-a-month commitment to be either a driver or to answer the telephone. An answerer is on duty at their own home from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to take details of requests from clients who need to be driven to appointments. A driver is on call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Most drives fall within about a 15-mile radius from Harvard. Harvard Help also keeps a list of drivers who are willing to drive to Worcester or Boston.

To volunteer or to learn more, call Pat Edmonds at 978-456-8367 or Pat White at 978-456-8127.
