Pennsylvania state policeman, Korean War veteran, father of Harvard man

Carl Thomas Aciukewicz, 82, gently passed away surrounded by his closest family in the General Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, Penn. Carl never fully recovered from a stroke he suffered in late 2010.
Carl was a caring and loving husband and father who led a humble, devout, and prayerful life. He was born in Nanticoke, Penn. on Nov 4, 1931, the son of the late John Aciukewicz and Anna Novarolski. He graduated from Nanticoke High School in 1949 and served in the Navy from 1950 to 1953; he was a Korean War veteran. Carl was loyal to his offices and always dependable, often focused on service to others. He served 34 years in the Pennsylvania State police force until 1990, the last 20 years at the rank of sergeant. Assignments for him and his family included Coudersport, Towanda, Dushore, and Wyoming, Penn.
Carl grew up as a member of the St. Joseph’s Slovak Parish; since he returned to Nanticoke in 1982, he was a member of Holy Trinity, now St. Faustina Parish. Here he served the parish community regularly in roles from kitchen volunteer to lector to Eucharistic minister. He also held many roles and titles at the Nanticoke American Legion Post from 1995 until his stroke in 2010. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and traveling to Harvard to spend time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Bernadine, of Nanticoke, Penn.; son Tom and wife, Lisa, of Harvard; Mass.; sister, Margaret, of Nanticoke, Penn.; sister-in-law, Margaret, of Mocanaqua, Penn.; niece Ann Marie Aed and nephew John Aciukewicz, and a newer generation of great-nieces and nephews.
