Samantha Allen, a reporter for The Sun of Lowell and a resident of Under Pin Hill Road, was awarded the MacGregor Fiske Novice Journalist Award, which recognizes excellence in print journalists who are relatively new to the field. According to the Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts, which distributes the award, Allen has worked at daily newspapers for almost three years and combines investigative reporting with the use of social media, data mining, and multimedia reporting through video and audio packages. She has also won awards for her reporting from the New England Newspaper and Press Association and the New Hampshire Press Association.
MacGregor Fiske was a lifelong newspaperman and mentor who worked at the Framingham News, MetroWest Daily News, Providence Bulletin, and Providence Journal. The award was established by his widow in his memory.
