Despite cold and blustery conditions, the Bromfield outdoor track teams performed well in their away meet at Gardner last Thursday, with the girls winning their meet by a score of 79-65 and the boys tying theirs 72-72.

The Lady Trojans had a strong showing across the board, scoring in every event except for the 4 x 400m relay and the javelin throw. They also placed first in 10 out of 17 events.

The team did particularly well in the one mile and the high jump, sweeping both events. In the one mile, sophomore Kate Toll led the group with a strong first-place finish, closely followed by eighth-grader Sophie Beckman and freshman Eva Xue, who placed second and third, respectively.

In the high jump, freshman Grace Turnbull took first place, and freshman Maddie Steele and eighth-grader Alex Saganich tied for second. The Trojans were awarded all nine points in high jump.

The boys’ team also fared well against Gardner, matching the girls in placing first in 10 out of 17 events. The team had stellar races in the mid-distance and distance events, sweeping the 800m and one mile and placing first and second in the two mile.

In the two mile, freshmen Jamie Barrett and Paul Chapman took an early lead over their Gardner opponents and kept up a strong pace throughout the entire eight laps of the race. They finished within a second of each other, with Barrett placing first and Chapman placing second.
