This week police made 25 motor vehicle stops, which resulted in 13 citations or written warnings, 11 verbal warnings, and one summons. In addition, police made visits to four Harvard residences to serve summonses.
Tuesday, March 25
An alarm company called to report a smoke detector activation at an Old Littleton Road home at 7:08 a.m. Fire officers were dispatched and discovered that the alarm had been set off by smoke from cooking. At 8:48 a.m. a caller traveling on Stow Road reported that his vehicle had just been passed by a speeding car. Police checked the area but did not locate the alleged speeder. Emergency personnel responded to a medical call on Highland Avenue at 9:51 a.m.; the ambulance subsequently transported a man to Nashoba Valley Medical Center. A Quarry Lane resident called at 9:56 a.m. to report a fire in the oven. Fire personnel were dispatched and were able to extinguish it. A Woodside Road resident called at 6:39 p.m. to report that a car had just skidded off the road and onto her property, leaving some turf damage in her yard. Police did not locate the vehicle. At 7:12 p.m. a constable from another town stopped at the station to log a no-trespass order that had been issued against a Harvard resident.
Wednesday, March 26
At 4:46 p.m. a caller reported sighting a possibly rabid raccoon on Old Littleton Road. Police checked the area but did not find the animal. Police responding to a 911 call from a Still River Road home at 5:14 p.m. arrested a woman on a domestic assault charge. At 11:04 p.m. a caller reported hitting a deer with his vehicle while traveling westbound on Littleton Road. The car sustained heavy damage to the hood and bumper, but did not require a tow. The deer did not survive the encounter; Animal Control was called to pick up the carcass.
Thursday, March 27
An officer on patrol at 7 a.m. noticed a dead deer on the edge of Littleton Road and contacted DPW to remove it. A fire officer investigated an alarm at a home on Prospect Hill Road and discovered that it had apparently been triggered by dust. Boxborough police called at 4:49 p.m. to request backup from Harvard officers at a traffic stop in Boxborough. An officer on patrol on Massachusetts Avenue stopped a car for speeding at 5:44 p.m. and issued a summons to the driver for speeding and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Friday, March 28
Emergency personnel responding to a 911 call from the Bromfield School at 6:54 p.m. transported a female to Nashoba Valley Medical Center. At 9:57 p.m. a caller reported that a car was “doing burnouts” in the parking lot at Town Hall. The car was gone when police arrived to investigate. An officer on patrol stopped at the town beach at 10:07 p.m. and, since the beach was closed, advised people inside a vehicle parked there to move on. At 10:29 p.m. an officer on patrol advised the driver of a car parked at the General Store to move along as well. At 11:23 p.m. an officer on patrol made note of an unoccupied car parked at McCurdy Track. At 11:30 p.m. a patrolling officer stopped to investigate a car parked at the overlook on Prospect Hill Road and confiscated drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana from the two occupants. Police say no charges were filed, since the amount of marijuana seized was so small.
Saturday, March 29
At 1:10 p.m. someone called with concerns about youths skateboarding on Old Schoolhouse Road. A police officer located the youths and sent them on their way after advising them about the dangers of skateboarding in that area. A Warren Avenue resident called at 2:52 p.m. to report a missing dog, but called back two hours later to say that the dog had been found. A Houghton Lane resident called at 3:21 p.m. to report the odor of gas in the home. Fire officers and representatives of National Grid responded and advised the residents and others in the immediate area to evacuate while they checked for gas leaks. The residents were allowed to reenter after it was confirmed that no leaks were present.
Sunday, March 30
At 1:03 a.m. an officer on patrol noticed a car parked in a bad location on Littleton Road, where heavy rain was causing poor visibility. After an unsuccessful attempt to locate the owner, police called a tow truck to remove the car. At 9:12 and 11:56 a.m. callers on Lovers Lane and Fairbank Street asked for assistance with flooded basements. The DPW was notified. The Acton Fire Department called at 3:17 p.m. requesting a fire engine from Harvard to cover the Acton station while that department handled a three-alarm fire. At 8:51 p.m. a caller reported suspicious-looking activity on Prospect Hill Road, where a moving truck and a car had pulled into the driveway of a nearby home. Both vehicles had their lights on, the caller said, and no one had gotten out of either one. Police responding to the call found that the vehicles belonged to the new owners of the residence in question.
Monday, March 31
Emergency personnel responded to a 911 call at a Stow Road home at 7:14 a.m. and transported a man to Emerson Hospital.Someone called the station at 4:19 p.m. seeking information about a restraining order, but was referred to Ayer police, who had jurisdiction over the matter. At 5:57 p.m. a caller reported that the Bare Hill Pond spillway on Willow Road was eroding. Police notified the Department of Public Works, which was already aware of the situation. At 9:36 p.m. police responded to the scene of a single-car accident on Massachusetts Avenue, where a car narrowly missed being struck by a large white pine that fell across the road. However, the car struck the tree and suffered heavy damage, requiring a tow. The driver was not injured; the Department of Public Works was contacted to cut up and remove the tree from the roadway. Emergency responders transported a woman to Nashoba Valley Medical Center from a Park Lane residence at 10:31 p.m.
