The Bromfield girls’ track and field team faced off against Littleton Monday, April 14, at McCurdy Track, losing with a score of 58 to 78. Conditions were less than ideal, with strong winds blowing against runners on the final straightaway.
First place scoring athletes included Amy Hunter in the 100-meter dash at 13.5 seconds and in triple jump at 33 feet, 6¼ inches; Deirdre Kennedy in the 100-meter high hurdles at 18.2 and in the 400m hurdles at 1 minute, 14.7 seconds; Brianna Harte in discus at 110-10 and in shot put at 30-11.5; and Maddie Steele in high jump at 4-4.
The 4×100 relay team fared well despite the circumstances, placing first with a time of 55.1. With two of the normal runners absent, the 4×100 was composed of Alex Saganich, Anya Begue, Emma Armstrong, and Amy Hunter. Because it was not the usual team, they did not have the time to practice and perfect their handoffs; as a result, some time was lost in passing the baton. However, their speed made up for it, and they finished with a decisive first place.
The next meet is scheduled to take place Thursday, April 17, away at Gardner. Coach David Boisvert told the Press, “It’s been tough with all the sickness going around. Hopefully we’ll have our whole team together again for Thursday.”
