Pub Night

MIT Band at Bromfield
The MIT Concert Band will perform Friday, April 18, at 7 p.m. at the Bromfield School’s Cronin Auditorium. Music of Paul Hindemith, Sergei Prokofiev, Alfred Reed, and others will be featured. The concert is free and open to the public.
Walk at Brown Conservation Land
The Harvard Conservation Trust will host a walk around the trust’s newly acquired Brown land Saturday, April 19, at 1 p.m. Participants are invited to enjoy the open fields, woods, wetlands, vernal pools, and a fantastic glacial erratic. This walk is co-sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Commission. Walkers will meet at the end of Murray Lane.
New Exhibits at Fruitlands
Fruitlands Museum will host a reception for two new exhibits Saturday, April 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. Refreshments and a talk by the curator will mark the openings of “The Changing Landscape: Fruitlands Living Collection,” and “The Ehrenkranz Basket Collection,” which includes over 90 baskets from all over the world. “Changing Landscape,” which tells the story of Fruitlands’ connection to the land, will be on display through June 8. The basket collection will be exhibited until Aug. 10.
Militaria Collectors Program
The Fort Devens Museum will host four speakers on the topic of military paraphernalia Saturday, April 19, at 1 p.m. at the museum, 94 Jackson St., Devens. Collectors will show Civil War items, military ephemera, uniforms, and Airborne and Special Forces items. The event is free, but donations are appreciated. Guided Birding
Harvard resident Pat White will lead birders of all levels in a guided walk Saturday, April 26, from 7 to 9 a.m. at Fruitlands Museum. Participants will meet at the upper parking lot for this free event.
Trail Cleanup
Residents of the Shaker Hills neighborhood will host a conservation trail clean-up Saturday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants should meet at the Holy Hill clearing at 11 a.m. and bring trimmers, hand saws, and work gloves. The Silk family will bring refreshments and snacks for all.
Concrete Canoe Race
The Northesast Society of Civil Engineers will hold their Concrete Canoe Race Sunday, April 27, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Bare Hill Pond, which will be closed to other boat traffic for the day. Specators are welcome to enjoy this free and unique event that features 12 teams of competitors. The Harvard General Store will be hosting the group’s post-race meal and awards ceremony.
May Day Celebration
The Evergreen Garden Waldorf School will host a May Day celebration for babies and children up to 5 years old and their caregivers Monday, April 28, from 9:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the school, 270 Barnum Road, Devens. Covered Bridge Talk
The Harvard Historical Society will host a meeting of the National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges Sunday, April 27, at 1 p.m. at the Harvard Historical Society (the Still River Meeting House), 215 Still River Road. After a brief meeting and a demonstration of a fire retardant used on many covered bridges, Bill Caswell will talk about Massachusetts covered bridges. Teen Summer Program
An informational meeting for the Teen Outdoor Summer Program offered by J.U.M.P. will be held Wednesday, April 30, at 6 p.m. at the Harvard General Store. Harvard-based J.U.M.P. teaches hiking as a cooperative sport. Through inclusive outdoor adventures and experiences, participants grow personally and socially while building leadership skills. Hiking opportunities, in or departing from Harvard, will be provided. Patriots Day Events
A re-enactment of the Battle of Lexington will take place Monday, April 21, at 5:30 a.m. at Lexington Green in the Minute Man National Historical Park. Action will then move to the park’s North Bridge in Concord, where from 8:45 a.m. to noon, another re-enactment will take place, followed at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. by a demonstration of 18th century battle maneuvers by “The Old Guard,” an infantry unit of the U.S. Army. Rufus Porter Expert at OSV
Author and decorative painter Linda Lefko will discuss the history of New England wall murals, and in particular, mural artist Rufus Porter, Saturday, April 26, at noon at Old Sturbridge Village.
