The Press Asks: Has the change in the day of the week and time for Town Meeting affected your plans to attend?

March 28, 2014

“Tuesday’s fine.

Q: Do you usually attend? “Yes.”

—Dave Winchell, Slough Road

“I always thought Saturday was a good time for Town Meeting. But my kids haven’t played soccer for a really long time.”

—Billy Salter, Elm Street

“[Tuesday night] improves the odds [I’ll be there]. I’m usually out of town on weekends in the spring. Our family takes vacations in March.”

—David Kay, Mass. Avenue

“I think it’s going to be better. On Saturdays our family scatters. Tuesday nights are such that we can tag team so one of us can go.”

Q: Would you come back for a second or third night?
“It would depend on what was on the agenda. If [the articles] weren’t really important to me, I wouldn’t come back the second night.”

—Chris Morrison, W. Bare Hill Road

“I’d be more likely to come [on a Tuesday evening] than on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. I would do evening. And don’t compete with gorgeous outdoor weather. If we’ve had days like [this winter] and all of a sudden it’s 55 degrees and sunny, I’m not going to want to sit inside.

Q: Do you normally attend?
“I go about half the time. Only just because there are other things that compete for my time.”

—Janet Beaty, Oak Hill Road

“I’m not so sure [I’ll attend]. I’m thinking about it. I’ve looked at [the agenda]. In other communities I’ve lived in there’s nothing more depressing than sitting with people who care and listening to [town officials]. Sure you can talk, but the thing is already stamped and done.”

—Om Goeckermann and Angela Matherkiel, Depot Road
