The Board of Selectmen approved another round of schematic designs for the Hildreth House renovation at their March 18 meeting. The vote was 4-0-1, with Leo Blair abstaining.
The vote followed a meeting earlier in the day between the Hildreth House Improvement Committee and Drayton Fair of LLB Architects, the project’s architect, where the attendees discussed a three-phase approach to renovation of the building.
The first phase would consist of HHIC’s bare-bones requirements, which include safe, level parking in front of the building, a small addition in back for a wheelchair lift, and renovation of the upstairs bathroom to make it handicapped accessible. The second phase would include extending the existing porch, building a new side entrance, and creating additional parking and a turnaround on the side of the building. Phase three would consist of an addition for a larger dining room, as well as renovations in the kitchen and downstairs bathroom and an additional downstairs bathroom. LLB agreed that they could do the design work within the $20,000 budget that was approved by the BOS at a previous meeting. They also agreed that the designs would be complete by the June 30 deadline, which is when the schematic design funds for Hildreth House and Town Hall expire. LLB promised to have something for HHIC to look at in about a month.
