Eleven minutes and 20 seconds. That’s how long it took the 40 or so Harvard Town Caucus participants to nominate 23 candidates for this year’s town election. Steven Cronin was quickly nominated and accepted as caucus chairman, and Nancy Cronin was nominated and accepted as recording secretary. They took their places at the head of the table in the Town Hall meeting room and made short work of the nominations. “That was a record,” one resident was heard to say as the caucus adjourned.
After the caucus, School Committee nominee Maureen Babcock chose not to run. Nomination papers were submitted Tuesday prior to the 5 p.m. deadline for a new candidate for School Committee, Jennifer Bedford.
At least one candidate will appear on the ballot for each open position this year, but there are only three contested races—Constable, Community Preservation Committee, and Parks and Recreation Commission. The election will be held on Tuesday, April 8.
