During the week ending Feb. 3, there were four motor vehicle accidents, two with deer. Police pulled over 20 motor vehicles and wrote six tickets, most for speeding. The ambulance responded to five 911 emergency calls.
Tuesday, Jan. 28
A Still River resident saw a raccoon walking on her property and called the police at 9:16 a.m. By the time an officer arrived, the animal had wandered off. At 10:34 a.m. a 911 call sent the ambulance to a Babbitt Lane home from which it transported a resident to Nashoba Valley Medical Center with advanced life support service (ALS) personnel on board. As reported in the Jan. 31 issue of the Press (see “Search for possible snowmobile mishap has a happy ending”), police, fire and EMT emergency workers joined the search for a possible snowmobile accident on Bare Hill Pond after a Bowers Road resident reported hearing the sound of a crash at 2:29 p.m. State police and a helicopter were called to the scene, but no one was found. At 6:46 p.m. police ticketed a Bolton driver for speeding on Slough Road. Police issued tickets to two more drivers at 9:20 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., the first to a Harvard resident who had failed to stop at a sign near the Bromfield School and the second to a Worcester resident for speeding and failing to stay within marked lanes on Stow Road.
Wednesday, Jan. 29
A car and deer collided on Ayer Road about 5:15 p.m. The deer was gone when an officer arrived. Responding to a 7:20 p.m. 911 call, the ambulance transported a male resident of Jacob Gates Road to Emerson Hospital.
Thursday, Jan. 30
A 911 call at 1:57 p.m. sent the ambulance to an Ayer Road location. A resident of Myrick Lane called at 2:11 p.m. to complain she had been run off the road by a Toyota Tundra pick-up truck traveling at a high rate of speed. Police referred the incident to the Ayer police. The ambulance answered a 911 call at 3:33 p.m. and transported a patient from a medical office on Ayer Road to an unknown location. A Woodside Road resident called at 3:49 p.m. to report that a tree was leaning against wires near pole #17. National Grid was notified and said it would respond in 54 minutes. Someone called the police at 5:29 p.m. to report that a black collie was loose near Hildreth Elementary School. Police notified the animal control officer. A Watertown driver struck a deer about 5:55 p.m. near Bolton and West Bare Hill roads. A Littleton Road resident called 911 at 7:08 p.m. to report a suspicious-looking vehicle on her property. A tan Toyota had slowed to allow her to exit and then entered her driveway once she had done so. When the woman approached the driver, he left.
Friday, Jan. 31
A Harvard Inn resident complained at 1:31 a.m. that a vehicle was inconveniently parked in front of the building. An officer located the owner and the car was moved. Police issued tickets for speeding to two Harvard drivers, the first at 11:35 a.m. on Mass. Ave. and the second at 12:03 p.m. near Poor Farm Road and Ohlin Lane. Someone noticed a suspicious white Mercedes near Ann Lees and South Shaker roads at 6:48 p.m. and called the police. The car was not located. Police, fire, and the ambulance responded to a serious accident at the intersection of Ayer and Mill roads at 11:30 p.m. The driver was reported to have been severely injured and was transported first to Nashoba Valley Medical Center and later flown by helicopter to UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester. The vehicle was towed. The accident remains under investigation, and police have refused to release additional information until their report is complete.
Saturday, Feb. 1
Harvard police assisted Boxborough police near the town line in response to a 2:20 a.m. call for backup. Having seen a suspicious-looking vehicle headed down Peninsula Road, a neighbor called the police at 4:50 a.m. An officer spoke with the driver and determined he had permission to be on the property. Shortly after noon police ticketed a Winchester woman for speeding on Old Shirley Road. An officer walked across the ice on Bare Hill Pond to Sheep Island to investigate a 12:46 p.m. report by a homeowner that several residences there had been broken into. The officer found that five buildings had been entered forcefully and vandalized, four of them with extensive damage to their interiors. Nothing appeared to have been stolen. The incident is under investigation. A Bowers Road resident found a stray but friendly German shepherd near his home and called police about 4:47 p.m. Police notified the animal control officer, who retrieved the dog and returned it to its owners. At 6:34 p.m. a neighbor noticed that a fire on land owned by Carlson Orchards on Oak Hill Road had not been completely extinguished and called 911. A fire engine was dispatched, and the fire was extinguished.
Sunday, Feb. 2
A Stow Road resident found drug paraphernalia and called 911 at 9:23 a.m. An officer retrieved and disposed of the items. The police, ambulance, and fire department responded to a 5:45 a.m. report of an accident on Eldridge Road. A car driven by a Bolton man had crashed into a telephone pole. The driver refused treatment. He was cited for failure to stay within marked lanes. The vehicle was towed.
Monday, Feb. 3
A Partridge Hill woman called 911 to complain that an unwanted male guest was refusing to leave her property. An officer responded, but the man was gone by his arrival.
