Lots of educators want to be the next principal of Hildreth Elementary School. The search committee for the new HES principal has received 66 applications, many more than anticipated, according to School Committee member Bob Sullebarger, who is on the search committee.
The current elementary principal, Dr. Linda Dwight, will move up to superintendent of schools for Harvard next July. Her promotion creates the new opening at HES. All applications for the principal’s position were due by Jan. 3.
The search committee is now reviewing the credentials of this flock of applicants. Sullebarger said that search committee members have set aside five blocks of time for interviews with promising candidates during the next two weeks. Semifinalists will receive a second interview, along with site visits to their current schools. Finalists will be interviewed publicly at the School Committee meeting Feb. 10.
The final choice rests with interim Superintendent Joe Connelly, who is an ex-officio member of the search committee. Connelly said he expects to announce the preferred candidate by Feb. 14. If everything works out as planned, one of the 66 hopefuls will receive a Valentine to remember.
