Bromfield seventh-grader Yohann Kumarasinghe won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee last month. The school-level bee, at which students answered oral questions on geography, was the first round in the 26th annual National Geographic Bee, sponsored by Google. Yohann’s win moves him one step closer to the grand prize, a $50,000 college scholarship
Earlier in December, Kumarasinghe and second-place finisher, Bromfield eighth-grader Drew Femino, won their way into the school-level bee during preliminary classroom competitions. Other participants included sixth-graders Olivia Diodato, Eli Fishbein, Tommy Hart, Tom Khuu, and Magnus Miller; seventh-graders Jake Catalina, John Hart, Alice Pope, and Patrick Stoffel; and eighth-graders Josh Canning, Rachel Ferguson, Jack Kelley, and Ben Williams.
Kumarasinghe, and other school winners from around the state, will now take a written test; top scorers from Massachusetts will be eligible to compete in the state bee on April 4.
