A woman called at 5:21 a.m. to report she had struck two deer on Ayer Road. She was uninjured, but because the driverside of her car was damaged, she had to exit through the passenger-side door. One of the deer was found alive nearby and had to be put down by the responding officer. An officer stopped a car on Ayer Road at 9:51 a.m. The driver was cited for operating the vehicle without an inspection sticker. A Littleton Road resident phoned at 12:05 p.m. to say that a boxer dog with a red leash was loose in the area. The dog control officer was notified. At 2:19 p.m. an officer went to Fruitlands Museum to investigate a series of letters mailed from New York containing bizarre messages written on slips of paper. The letters were turned over to a U.S. postal inspector who determined the letters did not contain hazardous material. Future letters will be intercepted by the post office before they reach the museum, but the matter remains under investigation. A Myrick Lane woman called at 4:01 p.m. concerned that someone she had met on Facebook appeared to be suicidal. Police investigated and consulted with police in the city where the man lived, but determined that her concerns had no foundation.
Wednesday, Dec. 4
At 7:01 a.m. a woman reported striking a deer on Still River Road. The responding officer found the injured animal, which had to be put down. The driver was uninjured. A Shaker Road resident called at 7:42 a.m. to inform police that she was having work done on her house and would be parking vehicles at the side of the road. At 10:53 a.m. a Candleberry Lane resident phoned to alert police that a black-and-white Australian shepherd dog was missing. The dog control officer was notified. The ambulance responded to a 1:59 p.m. 911 call and transported a male party from the Common to Emerson Hospital. A 2:12 p.m. 911 call brought the ambulance to the Foxglove Apartments on Ayer Road from which a female resident was transported to Emerson Hospital. At 10:12 p.m. a driver headed south on Ayer Road called to complain that she was being followed by another vehicle. When the caller pulled into the police station parking lot, the offending vehicle continued towards the center of town. Police determined that no further action was required.
Thursday, Dec. 5
Responding to a 911 call at 2:27 a.m., the ambulance transported a female resident of the Bowers Brook apartments on Ayer Road to Nashoba Valley Medical Center. A Depot Road resident phoned police at 5:01 p.m. to complain that a black Labrador dog was running loose on a nearby baseball field. An officer responded but could not find the animal. The dog control officer was notified. A resident of Prospect Hill reported seeing a hunter near Depot and Old Shirley roads at 5:03 p.m. Police were alerted, but the individual, a former Harvard resident, had permission to hunt there. At 10:15 p.m. police were called to a Depot Road residence where they helped break up an argument between two juveniles.
Friday, Dec. 6
At 9:32 a.m. a caller on White Lane complained that a brown boxer dog was loose in the area. The animal control officer was notified. A male party came to the station at 11:16 a.m. to complain that a tree on Bolton Road had been cut down without permission. But according to police, the removal had been requested by the Conservation Commission, which downed the tree to maintain a historic well on the land. At 12:11 p.m. a motorist on Still River Road at the Bellevue Cemetery called 911 to ask for help unlocking his vehicle. Police referred the matter to CBK Automotive of Boxborough. A female employee of the General Store came to the station at 10:36 p.m. to complain that a male party had been following her though she had asked him not to. Police spoke with the individual the next day, and the matter was resolved.
Saturday, Dec. 7
Shortly after midnight the female driver of a vehicle descending Old Schoolhouse Road lost control on the slippery street and hit a tree. The driver was uninjured, but it took two CBK tow trucks to pull the vehicle free. At 10:18 a.m. a police cruiser escorted Santa to the Congregational Church. He was transported on a red Harvard fire truck. For once, there were no deer to be seen.
Sunday, Dec. 8
At 1:16 a.m. police responded to a 911 call from a Houghton Road resident reporting an incident of domestic violence. Police arrested a Harvard resident and charged him with domestic assault and battery. He was later released on bail. At 1:54 p.m., a woman living on Whitman Road reported seeing a dead deer floating below her property in Bare Hill Pond. DPW was notified, though disposal of animal carcasses on private land is typically left to the owner. A male resident of Mettacomett Path complained of a barking dog in the area at 7:28 p.m. Police notified the animal control officer.
Monday, Dec. 9
Monday got off to an icy start. Police asked DPW and the state Department of Transportation to treat Mass. Ave. and Ayer Road twice that morning, and there were no accidents. At 10:51 a.m. police logged a report of identity theft by a Westcott Road resident. Someone had attempted to open a new credit card account using the resident’s personal information. An Ayer Road resident across from Dunkin’ Donuts complained at 5:21 p.m. that snow plows were turning around in his driveway and making too much noise. The caller was asked to contact the state Department of Transportation about the matter. At 9:55 p.m. police and the fire department responded to a 911 call reporting a car fire on Still River Road. When police arrived, they found a van engulfed in flames. After the fire was extinguished, officers found two empty gasoline containers and a container of paint thinner. The incident was referred to the State Fire Marshal, who declined to investigate. Harvard police determined no further action was needed.
