School Committee will soon meet at Bromfield
The School Committee will soon be able to hold meetings in the Bromfield School library, while broadcasting live on Harvard Cable TV. School Committee member Keith Cheveralls reported that HCTV is “inches away from being able to broadcast meetings live” from the new location. Several School Committee members have expressed the feeling that the most fitting place for the committee to meet is at school. The only obstacle was the lack of cable capacity.
Report from Nature’s Classroom
Wet boots, shooting stars, slugs, and a snakeskin were highlights from Nature’s Classroom for Harvard fifth-graders last week. After an overview by teacher Rob Cullinane, several students reported on their experiences and shared their journals with an enthralled School Committee.
John Babcock described the “electricity station” with a static electricity generator where “we all got shocked.” Claire Stoddard took her first hike and found a cluster of fallen trees like a jungle gym that was “really fun.” Emily Riddle reported that, during a night hike, she learned that “your eyes have rods and cones, and the rods help you see at night.” She also saw two shooting stars and learned that wintergreen Lifesavers glow when you bite them. Ben Brown learned how to walk silently in the woods and throw Native American hunting weapons. On beach day, Ziyad Ali reported, “A lot of people got their boots completely soaked. . . . and I put them in my backpack and later I discovered them when I got home.” The beach was also the spot where kids found crabs and a snakeskin. Felix Amil reported on Thursday Night Live with enthusiasm.
