The Harvard Public Library will resume its popular storytimes for young children the week of September 22. To register for programs—required for all but Infant Storytime—call the children’s librarian at 978-456-2381.
Infant Storytime, Mother Goose on the Loose, is an early literacy program for infants to two-year-olds and their caregivers; older siblings are also welcome. It uses rhymes and songs to help pre-reading children get ready for reading. The fun-filled, 45 minutes incorporate music, movement, ritual, repetition, positive reinforcement, developmental tips, nursery rhymes, illustrations, puppets, musical instruments, colored scarves, and book reading. Mondays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.; registration is required.
Storytime for Twos and Threes is a 20- to 30-minute interactive, theme-based storytime that includes songs, simple stories, feltboard stories, creative dramatics, and fingerplays appropriate for 2- and 3-year-olds. The storytime runs in six-week sessions and is limited to 12 children and their caregivers. Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. from Sept. 25 to Oct. 30; registration is required.
Art & Stories for Fours and Fives, appropriate for children ages 4 to 7, begins with a few longer picturebook stories and ends with a process art project that encourages preschoolers to explore art materials in an open-ended, creative manner. Some weeks the storytelling includes the library’s puppets or feltboard stories. The Art & Stories for Fours and Five six-week session meets Tuesdays at 2 p.m., beginning Sept. 24 until Oct. 29, and is limited to 12 children; registration is required.
Saturday Art & Stories for Fours and Fives, appropriate for ages 4 to 7, is a once-a-month Saturday version of Art & Stories. The 30- to 45-minute program begins with longer picture book stories and ends with a creative art project. Saturday Art & Stories is limited to 12 children, and registration is required for the next program, Saturday, Sept. 28, at 10:30 a.m.
