State Police will provide policing for Devens
Town Administrator Tim Bragan announced that Devens has chosen to continue with the services of state police rather than to accept the proposal to use Harvard Police. He said the selection was not based on cost and that he will pursue the reasons for the decision to see if there was anything the town could have done differently to get the contract. Regional dispatch will not begin operating until Oct. 1, Bragan reported, because of technical delays.
ConsCom can hire outside counsel
The selectmen renewed permission for the Conservation Commission to hire outside counsel on those matters of conservation restrictions that require special expertise beyond that of Town Counsel Mark Lanza.
Community solar has petitioned for a Special Town Meeting
Marie Sobalvarro announced that Representative Benson will not be filing legislation for Harvard’s community solar project and that the selectmen have received a citizen petition of 272 names asking for a special town meeting to consider tax issues concerning the solar project. Sobalvarro said the board will take this up at their Oct. meeting.
Selectmen approve entertainment and liquor licenses
The selectmen unanimously approved a year-long entertainment license for the events held at Center on the Common and for an off-premises license for the General Store to sell beer and wine from the first floor and basement. They granted the request for a banner over Ayer Road from the Harvard Road Race Association.
Words of support for Project Interface
Selectman Stu Sklar called attention to Project Interface, now in its second year at Bromfield. This is an organization, supported by various groups in town, that provides help finding mental health services for youth.
