At 6:50 p.m. a bicyclist came to the police station to report he had just been sideswiped by a passing vehicle on Ayer Road between Mill Road and Whitney Lane. The man, a Harvard resident, said he had been proceeding north on Ayer Road when an SUV, described as a dark Chevy Tahoe or Suburban, struck him, injuring his wrist. He said another occupant in the front passenger seat was yelling at him as the vehicle passed. The ambulance offered assistance, but the victim declined. Police have a partial plate number for the hit-and-run car, and the incident is under investigation.
Thursday, August 1
Police responded at 7 a.m. to a report of vandalism at the Bodylines Pilates studio on Ayer Road. Someone had shattered its plate glass window with a BB or pellet gun. Police determined the incident, which is being investigated, had occurred sometime after 2:30 a.m. Damage is estimated at $400.
Friday, August 2
A resident of Ayer Road called at 2 p.m. to report a burglary. The caller said the thief had forced entry into the home by breaking a front door window and stolen two laptops and a checkbook. A suspect is in custody, but the stolen items have not been recovered. (See story)
Saturday, August 3
A motorist struck and killed a dog on Still River Road. The driver remained at the scene until police responded at 12:30 a.m. and notified the owner. That night, about 8:30 p.m., the animal control officer was called to East Bare Hill Road, where a cat had been hit by a passing car and had to be put down. No citations were issued for either incident.
Sunday, August 4
A passing motorist reported seeing a man who appeared to be injured sitting by the side of Littleton Road at 8:05 p.m. The ambulance responded and transported the individual to Nashoba Valley Medical Center.
Tuesday, August 6
An Oak Hill Road resident called to report a burglary at 8:40 a.m. The thief had entered through an unlocked door and made off with an iPad. A suspect is in custody, but the stolen item has not been recovered. (See story)
Wednesday, August 7:
An Old Littleton Road resident called at 10:46 a.m. to report the second burglary in town in as many days. The thief had entered through an unlocked door and stolen two laptops and some jewelry. A suspect is in custody, but the stolen items have not been recovered (See story)
Friday, August 9
The owners of a summer residence on Wilroy Avenue, who had been absent for several weeks, called at 8:50 a.m. to report that someone had broken into their home and stolen a TV, VCR, and some alcohol. The thief had gained entry by cutting a screen and climbing through a window. The burglary is under investigation, but appears to be unrelated to the three reported elsewhere in this log.
Sunday, August 11
A motorist spotted two people walking near Route 2 at 1:24 a.m. Police located the individuals, but they were not a problem.
