Harvard’s switch to regional dispatch delayed

Although Harvard was scheduled to move its town emergency dispatch service to the Nashoba Valley Regional Emergency Communications Center (NVRECC) at Devens in September, sometime after Labor Day, it now appears the move will not take place for “several weeks.” According to Police Chief Edward Denmark, there has been a delay in a planned fiber optics connection from Harvard to the new center, which is needed for Harvard residents to communicate with the NVRECC after hours. A new date for the switch, which is expected to reduce costs and improve coverage, has yet to be announced.
