In mid-June I wrote a letter to the members of Parks and Rec Commission raising issues about the design of the new boat dock area and in particular the shallow slope of the dock ramp. The ramp is so shallow as to present a serious injury and liability issue for those trying to launch or load a boat. I have yet to hear even an acknowledgement from any member of the committee. After reading about the disastrous meeting during which John Lee resigned, things seem to make sense. With so much negative energy being placed on one topic, other items are being ignored to the detriment of the town. The launch is one that truly needs to be addressed.
I can certainly understand that several dozen teenagers all congregating near the beach may at times become a bit rowdy. However, I have a difficult time believing that they have been disturbing that many other beach-goers. I live on the pond and regularly see how empty the beach is, even on beautiful summer days. If someone is complaining, let them stand up and be counted. Otherwise, I’m tempted to believe that some members of Parks and Rec have a vendetta against the rowing club and will claim anything just for spite. I believe we should be doing everything we can to encourage more youth to become involved in such healthy endeavors as the rowing club. If behavior is truly an issue, then focus on that, but don’t complain about overcrowding at the beach.
