On the road with COA

Call the COA office at 978-456-4120 for more details or to sign up for trips. Because van space is limited, early sign-ups are recommended.

  • Thursday, July 11, Boston Harbor Cruise to Georges Island. Seniors will enjoy a ride on the ferry, take in the beauty of Georges Island, and visit Fort Warren, which played a role in the Civil War and where the surrounding grounds offer a low-stress walkway. The bus will leave Hildreth House at 8 a.m. and return around 3 p.m. The cost is $20. For lunch, there is a snack shack or places to enjoy your own picnic lunch. To register, call the COA as soon as possible.
  • Tuesday, July 23, Anheuser-Busch Brewery, Merrimack, N.H. Seniors will tour the brewery and learn steps in the brewing process. At the end of the tour, there will be an opportunity to sample some of the brewery’s products or have a soda. The bus will leave Hildreth House at 8:45 a.m. and return at 4 p.m. The cost for this trip is $10, not including lunch at the Common Man restaurant in Merrimack. Call the COA by Thursday, July 18.

Monthly restaurant visit

Wednesday, July 17, Bamboo Restaurant, Westford. Bamboo offers a daily lunch buffet or a menu option. Seniors may take the COA van from Hildreth House at 11:15 a.m. or meet at the restaurant. The van will return around 1:30 p.m. Sign up by Monday, July 15. Space is limited. Call 978-456-4120 to reserve a seat on the van.


COA goes to the movies

Monday, July 15, 1 p.m., Harvard Public Library. This month’s movie, starring Denzel Washington, tells the redemption story of a commercial airline pilot who struggles with the label of being an American hero, after pulling off a heroic feat.


Groton summer concert

Saturday, July 20, Remember the 70s? Groton’s free summer concert series will present a 70s show from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Groton Gazebo. Sponsored by the Main Street Café in Groton, the concert will feature local bands performing music by the Doobie Brothers, Carol King, Elton John, Bad Company, Abba, Fleetwood Mac, Carly Simon, Eagles, and many more. The concert and van are free and people are welcome to bring beverages. Dinner will be at 4:30 p.m. at Johnson’s in Groton. Van space is limited.

After many years on the COA Board of Directors, most recently serving as treasurer, Sharon Briggs is stepping down. The COA wants to send her off with a special thanks for her significant help.
