A Brown Road resident called shortly before 1 a.m. to complain of noise coming from a car parked nearby. Two teenagers found playing music in their car were told to move on. At 6:15 a.m. a resident called to report that a TV had been left near Lovers Lane and Under Pin Hill Road. A DPW worker removed it. A passing motorist reported seeing someone taking pictures of houses on Park Lane about 10:50 a.m. The photographer had ID showing he was employed by a bank. Also at 10:50 a.m., a Bolton Road resident reported giving directions to West Bare Hill Road to the driver of a gray van parked in a vacant lot. The driver then left in the opposite direction. A woman renting a house on Park Lane called at 5:30 p.m. to say she couldn’t shut off a fire alarm. The on-duty fire officer responded and silenced the device. The Ayer police called Harvard at 9:26 p.m. to relay word that a resident had heard noises coming from the Shaker Hills golf course, from which golf carts were recently stolen. Employees of the club were working late.
Wednesday, June 19
At 2:26 a.m. a motorist reported that a large tree limb was blocking Stow Road. DPW was called and used a front-end loader to remove the branch. At 11:18 a.m., a resident dropped off a pair of nonprescription eyeglasses found near Great Elms. Shortly after noon, an officer investigated a burglar alarm at a residence on Ohlin Lane. It had been set off by a real estate agent. About 1:45 p.m., police investigated a motor vehicle accident on Ayer Road. A car had backed into a piece of heavy equipment, damaging a rear taillight but causing no harm to the construction gear. Police were called shortly before 6 p.m. to investigate a car hung up on rocks at the Town Beach. The driver called AAA for help.
Thursday, June 20
Shortly after 8 a.m. a Depot Road resident reported that a low-hanging wire was forcing traffic into a single lane. It was a telephone wire and police advised the utility of the problem. An irate resident came to the police station at 10:47 a.m. to report she had almost been run off the road by a speeding red Volvo near the Village Nursery School on Poor Farm Road. Police located the suspect and brought him to the police station for questioning, but no charges were made. Shortly before 5 p.m., an Old Shirley Road resident reported there was an elderly man sleeping in a car in front of his house. When an officer arrived, the car was gone.
Friday, June 21
At 1:15 a.m., a Lancaster County Road resident reported seeing a lone male walking at the McCurdy track. The man told the investigating officer that he was headed to Stow, and drove off in his car. Later, at about 2 a.m., a resident reported tree limbs in the road near the intersection of Still River Road and Madigan Lane. Officer Coates moved them to the side of the road and left a message for DPW to remove them. Shortly before 7 a.m., police responded to a domestic incident on Bolton Road. No further information is available. At 10:35 a.m., the fire department responded to a vehicle fire on the westbound ramp to Route 2. A female Harvard resident came to the police station shortly before 3 p.m. to report that she had been stopped for speeding by an unmarked vehicle on Ayer Road and the plainclothes officer had not returned her registration. She was advised to contact the state police to report the incident.
Saturday, June 22
At 1:11 a.m., an out-of-town driver reported that two males were pretending to stretch a rope across Prospect Hill Road near the overlook to confuse approaching cars. The driver had followed the car from Route 2 where the same two youths had been pretending to throw stones at passing vehicles. When an officer arrived he found a third individual, Peter Duckett, 22, of Harvard, in the driver’s seat of the suspect car. He was charged with operating under the influence, driving to endanger, failure to stay within marked lanes, and failure to stop at a stop sign. He was arrested and arraigned at Clinton District Court on Monday. The car was towed. The two other youths were not charged. At 10:47 a.m., a passerby reported spotting a male with a white van taking scrap wood from the Route 2 bridge construction site. On arrival, the officer found no one. At 1:50 p.m., shortly before dump closing time, a motorist witnessed some trash falling onto Massachusetts Avenue from a flatbed trailer being pulled by a small car. An officer located the vehicle and the driver retrieved the litter. In the evening, shortly before 8 p.m., an officer investigating an accidental burglar alarm on Still River Road heard the sound of fireworks coming from a nearby property. On finding two adults in possession of pyrotechnics, the officer seized the contraband. No one was charged.
Sunday, June 23
About 9:20 a.m., a resident called to report that a kayak paddle had been stolen from his kayak rack at Bare Hill Pond. He said the paddle had been locked. A female neighbor reported seeing several people with a camper trespassing at the Bellevue Cemetery on Still River Road. Police found no one.
Monday, June 24
A neighbor spotted two parties trespassing on the grounds of the old Harvard observatory on Pinnacle Road shortly after midnight. The investigating officer told them to move on. Around 11:50 a.m., the ambulance came to the aid of a female bicyclist who had fallen near the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Woodchuck Hill. She was unconscious, but was breathing. She was transported to UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester. An hour later, at 12:55 p.m., the ambulance transported a male resident of Highland Avenue to the Nashoba Valley Medical Center with Advanced Life Support (ALS) on board. The man had collapsed while working on the roof of his house and was unresponsive, with a faint pulse. A fire department ladder truck was called to help rescue the party from the roof and carry him to the ambulance.
