WW II veteran, father of Harvard woman
Norman Sklar, 94, of Harvard, formerly of Brick, N.J., died June 12, 2013.
Born in Monongahela, Pa., Norman grew up in Newark, N.J., where he met and married his wife, Mildred. Before being called to serve in the Army in World War II, he attended the University of Kansas. Norman worked as a bookkeeper for J&J Distributors in Millburn, N.J., for most of his career. Norman and Mildred raised their family in Union, N.J., and later retired to Brick.
Norman loved his family, bowling, the Yankees, and the N.Y. Giants, and had a keen interest in NASA’s space program. In his later years, he was active in the Lions Head South community, where he and his wife lived.
Norman is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mildred Sklar; his two children, his son, Howard Sklar and his wife, Valerie, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; his daughter, Barbara Campbell and her husband, Bill, of Harvard, Mass.; and two grandchildren, Sheri Minholz and her husband, Gregory, and Stephanie Cava. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Cooper, of Springfield, N.J. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
A chapel service was held on June 14 at the Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Lakewood, N.J. Interment followed at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, N.J.
