Town Meeting and Town Elections are behind us. We thank all candidates for being willing to serve. The path to Town Hall renovations has been cleared, and leadership has been established for the next year. Along the way, as the Press worked to fulfill its mission as Harvard’s independent source for news, our evolving policy about candidate letters became a much larger issue than it should have. Without debating whether or not it is the right policy, or whether we applied it evenly, we want to acknowledge that it needs further review, taking into account as much community input and feedback as possible.
To that end, we will publish a survey, which we will leave open for several weeks. We will ask for your opinion about whether negative candidate letters should be allowed, and if so what, if any, assertions should be off limits. We will also ask what you like and don’t like about other parts of the paper, and ask for your improvement suggestions. We consider ourselves to be stewards of the Press as a community resource, and we believe it is important, from time to time, to ask how we are doing.
The survey will be available online; there will also be a paper copy in the May 10 Press, and there will be copies available at the library, Hildreth House, and the General Store. Please take the time to respond, and let us know how we can keep improving.
