And they’re off! More than 4,000 rubber ducks are dumped by a front-bucket loader from the bridge over the Nashua River in Still River as they begin their journey toward the finish line.
Tagged and ready to race, ducks sit in the bucket of the loader.
A few choice ducks were put on display on the handrail of the bridge but later returned to the scoop of the front-bucket loader that dumped the lot.
Downstream, John Gervais and Pat Magnus wait for the winning duck to arrive. Gervais holds up a duck decoy. “Our mascot,” he says.
Pat Magnus collects the ducks for next year.
