Friends of the Library Book Sale
The Friends of the Harvard Public Library’s annual book sale will begin Friday, May 10, with a preview sale for Friends of the Library only from 4 to 8 p.m. On Saturday, May 11, early bird admission from 8 to 9 a.m. is $10 per person. The sale is open to all, with no admission fee, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Styrofoam Recycling Event
Recycle Styrofoam on Saturday, May 11, from 8 a.m. to noon at the transfer station. Jane Sullebarger’s Styrofoam recycling event, her Girl Scout Gold service project, will accept all clean, unwanted No. 6 polystyrene foam. Donations are accepted to help pay recycling costs. Art-In-Nature Sculpture Exhibit Opening
Sculptors from Fruitlands Museum’s new Art-In-Nature outdoor sculpture exhibit will discuss their work Saturday, May 11, at 1 p.m. 2013 Artist-in-Residence Jodi Colella will discuss her work and her plans for workshops, classes, exhibitions, and outdoor installations during her tenure at Fruitlands. Bollywood Dance Workshop
The Center on the Common will host Dance Energy, a Bollywood dance workshop, Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to noon. The cost is $35.
‘Three Friends’ Art Exhibit
“Three Harvard Friends,” an exhibit featuring the works of Carol Panek Clark, Terri Knoettner, and Elizabeth Roy, will be on display at the Center on the Common Saturday, May 11, through the end of May. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday. An artist reception will be held Friday, May 17, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Center.
Indian Cooking Class
The Center on the Common will host a vegetarian Indian cooking class Saturday, May 11, from 2 to 5 p.m.. The cost is $40.
Chris Herren Talks About Substance Abuse
Former Celtics player Chris Herren will talk about his battle with substance abuse Monday, May 13, at 6 p.m. in Cronin Auditorium. Herren challenges and inspires students to make good decisions; works to educate youth and at-risk populations on the importance of a healthy lifestyle; and provides techniques to address social pressures within their lives, their community, or their family situation. The event is free and open to the public. Recommended for students in eighth grade and older. Fort Devens Museum: Armed Forces Day
Fort Devens Museum will hold an open house Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 94 Jackson Road in Devens to celebrate Armed Forces Day with a day of history and memories, as well as guest speakers.
Four Stories
Four acclaimed writers—Dillon Bustin, Linda Hoffman, Pagan Kennedy, and Lauren Slater—will read selections from their writings on the theme, “Beneath the Surface: Confessions, Guilt and Redemption,” when Four Stories, the Boston-area literary series comes to the Harvard General Store on Saturday, May 18. Wine tasting and live music will begin at 6 p.m., and the General Store café will be open for light fare at 5 p.m. Readings will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission and wine tasting are free. Birding at Oxbow
Naturalists Dick and Peggy Knowlton will lead a birding walk Sunday, May 19, at 7:30 a.m. at Oxbow National Wildlife Refuge, beginning at the parking lot at the end of Still River Depot Road. Worcester Chamber Music Society Mother’s Day Concert
The Worcester Chamber Music Society (WCMS) will perform a free Mother’s Day Concert Sunday, May 12, at 7:30 p.m. at Mechanics Hall in Worcester, with a pre-concert talk at 7 p.m. The concert features Mozart’s “Flute Quartet in C,” Saint-Saëns’s “The Swan,” and Schubert’s “Cello Quintet.” Admission is free and open to the public; no reservations are required.

Water, Water, Everywhere—Maybe
Bolton Local will host a program to highlight the privatization of public water supplies Thursday, May 16, at 7 p.m., at the Bolton Public Library. State Senator Jamie Eldridge, chairman of the state’s Water Infrastructure Finance Commission, will introduce the program. The main speaker, Sterling resident Maryanne MacLeod, will talk about the fight with Nestlé Corp. for rights to the nearby Wekepeke aquifer. A discussion will follow the presentation.
