Trust plans April 22 hearing on Ayer Road, Poor Farm properties
The Municipal Affordable Housing Trust plans to invite the public to an informational meeting about its two affordable housing projects, which are in the beginning stages of development. The meeting is scheduled for April 22 at 7:30 p.m, at the Town Hall meeting room. The trust has options on a 14-acre parcel at 361 Ayer Road and on the old Poor Farm property at the corner of Littleton and Poor Farm roads.
Development at Littleton Road is likely to include about five condominiums in the existing main building with several small homes surrounding it. The trust said it plans to ask the Conservation Commission to consider purchasing a 16-acre wetland area and pond at the old Poor Farm for the purpose of preserving that part of the 28-acre property.
Ideally, the trust says, the Ayer Road parcel would be developed as family-friendly apartments with a look similar to Harvard Green, the condominium development at the corner of Lancaster County and Ayer roads.
Both properties would be developed by third parties, not by the trust itself. On Monday, the trust said it was refining its own requirements so that it could soon solicit Requests for Proposals from developers.
In other business, the trust voted to “take no position on the town planner.”
