This year we will have the opportunity to again elect to the Board of Selectmen a successful businessman/entrepreneur by the name of Leo Blair. I had the privilege to serve on the Board of Selectmen with Leo. The board, at that time, unprecedentedly elected a newly elected selectman, as chairman of the board. His leadership led the board to what I believe was the most successful year of accomplishments during my tenure as a selectman. Many of the ideas were started by Leo Blair during his chairmanship and are today benefiting our town: town center sewerage, a reopened old library, Bowers Brook 42 units of affordable housing, a balanced budget, and the Energy Advisory Committee, to name a few.
Another example of Leo Blair’s accomplishments is that the present Board of Selectmen appointed Leo Blair to the Municipal Affordable Housing Trust, to which he became the committee’s choice to be the chairman. Since then it has been announced that agreements have been reached for the purchase of the Maxant property and the McCurdy property for additional affordable housing and open spaces.
We need an experienced businessman/entrepreneur as well as a person with past experience in town government to represent us during the coming years. On April 30th, I plan to vote for a forward-looking Leo Blair, and I hope other Harvard voters will join me in returning Leo Blair to the Board of Selectmen.
