Long-time resident Christine Franzeim will be honored this week by her former student Brian Furciniti as part of Furciniti’s receipt of the Frederick Emmons Termon Engineering Scholastic award from Stanford University. The award is presented to students who rank academically in the top five percent of the graduating class. Each recipient nominates a high school teacher who has been most influential in the student’s academic career to be flown by the university to California to be honored together with the students at a luncheon ceremony. Furciniti selected Franzeim, his English teacher, for this recognition. Franzeim, now retired, taught at Groton-Dunstable Regional High School for over 30 years. Franzen remarked, “This kind of thing doesn’t happen to teachers. Who knew that Chaucer and Shakespeare would prove instrumental in the study of mechanical engineering?”
