Mother of Harvard woman, avid gardener

Dorothy A. Lukas, 82, of Fitchburg, died Monday, April 22, in the Walden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Concord.
Dorothy was born in Elizabeth, N.J., daughter of the late Charles and Grace (Stevenson) Sikora. She graduated from Battin High School in New Jersey, from the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts, and received a bachelor’s degree from New York University.
Dorothy was a longtime parishioner of Faith United Parish in Fitchburg and belonged to the Leominster Art Association. She loved gardening and crossword puzzles and enjoyed golf and bowling. Dorothy was also an avid reader and loved to travel, both within the United States and internationally.
Dorothy leaves her husband of 59 years, John S. Lukas Sr.; her children, John S. “Jack” Lukas Jr. and his wife Debbie of Plainville, Jeffrey D. Lukas and his wife Caryn of Bradenton, Fla., William R. Lukas and his wife Margie of Dracut, Lauren Hunnewell and her husband Frank of Harvard; grandchildren, Matthew and wife Kiley, Garrett, and Bryan Lukas, Jack Hunnewell, and Elizabeth Lukas; great-granddaughter, Milaina; brother, Robert C. Sikora and his wife Ann of Clearwater, Fla..
The funeral will be held Saturday, April 26, at 11 a.m. in Faith United Parish, 820 Main St., Fitchburg. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday, April 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
