Speaking as an observer of the meeting, we should not misinterpret or second-guess the ZBA members’ motives in their questioning. The real point of exasperation was the inability of the Town Hall Building Committee to explain why the current design was the only option and the details and costs of any other approach. Listening to Pete Jackson’s explanation as to why the Town Hall Building Committee did not come to the ZBA before asking the town to approve the design, was painful. It was an embarrassing attempt to rewrite history. The truth is that they didn’t think to look at the setback requirements, or worst, they chose to come to the ZBA to say “Sorry” rather than coming earlier to ask permission.
