Tuesday, March 12
About 2 p.m. a resident called to report seeing two unfamiliar trucks parked nearby. When police investigated, they found that both trucks belonged to a moving company that was helping a neighbor transfer household goods from a home to a larger van. Thirty minutes later a driver reported a collision with a deer on Prospect Hill Road. The deer was killed; there was no damage to the vehicle. Police received several calls from area residents around 4:50 p.m. reporting a downed tree on Ayer Road. The Harvard Highway Department was alerted and removed it. At 5:45 p.m. the Harvard ambulance transported a Glenview Drive resident to the Lahey clinic.
Wednesday, March 13
A resident reported around 6:20 a.m. that a badly injured deer was lying at the side of Stow Road near the Interstate 495 bridge abutment. The Harvard animal control officer was called, and put the deer out of its misery. Harvard EMTs responded to a 10 a.m. request for help by the relative of an Ayer Road senior citizen who needed assistance. The patient refused transport to a medical facility. At 3:19 p.m., police issued a ticket to the driver of a vehicle caught speeding on Prospect Hill Road. A woman called at 5:34 p.m. to complain that someone had placed rocks in the roadway near her home. Police investigated and the individual responsible for the inconvenience removed them.
Thursday, March 14
Police called out the Massachusetts State Highway Department at 6:29 a.m. to deal with ice on the stretch of Massachusetts Avenue from the center of town to the Boxborough town line, a not uncommon occurrence. At 9:26 a.m. an officer was sent to check up on a Cleaves Hill Road senior citizen who had not answered an “Are You OK?” call. The party was found to have left town. Around noon, a resident called to report that a tent had been pitched on her Babbitt Lane property. When police investigated they found a blue tarp thrown over a rope that had been stretched between two trees. There was no one in the area. A resident stopped by the police station at 4:36 p.m. to report a “larceny by check.” Since the incident had occurred in Acton, the investigating officer referred her to the police department there. At 9:40 a.m. a passing police officer investigated an unoccupied vehicle parked on Prospect Hill. After running a check on its plates, the officer determined no further action was necessary.
Friday, March 15
At 10:20 a.m. the Harvard Highway Department spotted a small sinkhole in front of the Hildreth Elementary School that had exposed a gas pipe. National Grid was called. There were no breaks or punctures found in the line, and the hole was filled. A resident called at 10:34 p.m. to report that there were three unfamiliar vehicles parked near a residence on Depot Road. Police found a social gathering underway at the home. No further action was required.
Saturday, March 16
At 3 a.m. an officer spotted a truck with its overhead lights on in the lot of Mill Road Tire and Auto on Ayer Road and informed the owner. The manager of Dunkin’ Donuts on Ayer Road called at 11 a.m. to report smoke in the main lobby of the building at 188 Ayer Road. The on-duty fire officer was dispatched, but after checking the facility thoroughly was unable to locate the source of the odor. Responding to a call from a resident who was having a dispute with a Finn Road neighbor over the behavior of the neighbor’s dog, the town’s animal control officer was sent to the scene around 6:10 p.m. No further action was required.
Sunday, March 17
An officer delivered a message to a Bolton Road residence at 1:09 a.m. on behalf of another resident. A churchgoer reported around 11:30 a.m. that her purse had been stolen while she was attending Mass at the Catholic Church on Still River Road. Police responded, but the purse was located by the owner shortly thereafter. Police and ambulance responded at 4:42 p.m. to a bicycle accident at the intersection of Woodchuck Hill Road and Massachusetts Avenue. No motor vehicle was involved. The victim was transported to Nashoba Valley Medical Center.
Monday, March 18
At 5:26 a.m. a Harvard resident called to say that a tractor-trailer was attempting to turn around at the intersection of Ayer and Old Mill roads. There was no sign of the vehicle when police arrived at the scene. Around 4 p.m., an officer drove the department’s Ford Expedition to Ayer for some body work, the consequence of an encounter between the cruiser and a town plow a week earlier.
