I agree with the general observation Mr. Durrant made in his letter to the editor last week. It seems as if this winter, our roads have been coated with an unnecessary layer of salt and sand. I know this well because I ride my bike all winter long throughout Harvard’s roads. This really does beat on the ecosystems around Harvard when the rains come and wash it all down the drain and into our waterways, ground water (our wells), etc. At this point, Willow Road could be reclassified as a dirt road, with all the sand on it.
As a historical observation, when I was a kid growing up here, it seems as if the expectations for people’s driving ability in the winter months were about 10 times higher than they are today.
Government, come save us! (NOT!).
