Former Bromfield students Josh Moen, Chris Sweeney, and Justin Walsh climbed Chimborazo and Cotopaxi with an Ecuadoran guide on a nine-day trip to Ecuador.
The peak of Chimborazo, elevation 20,564 feet, is covered by glaciers. Because of its location on the equatorial bulge, it is the farthest point from the center of the earth. Cotopaxi, the second highest peak in Ecuador at 19,347 feet, is the world’s highest active volcano.
The young men were physically well-prepared, passing other teams along the trail, and were the first of the groups climbing that day to reach the summit. They previously climbed Mt. Rainier in 2010.
All three attended the Bromfield School and now live in Waltham.
