The Harvard Schools Trust is pleased to announce its largest annual event, the 24th Annual Spring Dinner-Theater Gala to be held Saturday, March 16. The Gala will begin at 6 p.m. with a production by the award-winning Bromfield Drama Society at the Cronin Auditorium, directly followed by dinner, dessert, and a silent auction at 7:15 p.m. at the Fellowship Building, 7 Elm Street.
“The Gala is our most anticipated and celebrated event of the year,” said Terry Symula, Schools Trust. “An evening of theater, fine food, and kinship brings the entire Harvard community together in support of education and the arts.”
Tickets are $60 per person, $40 for seniors (age 65+). Tickets for only the theater performance are $20 ($10 for students). Half the price of each ticket is tax-deductible. This year’s play is “The Arsonists” by the Swiss playwright Max Frisch, written in the late 1940s. It is classified as a dramatic comedy with absurdist undercurrents. “Although essentially realistic in tone, the use of a comic chorus and actors directly addressing the audience lends a nice level of theatricality,” explained George Kendall, the Bromfield Drama Society’s new director. “The ‘moral’ of the story stresses how we harbor danger under our noses without even realizing it, and how the complacent public can be manipulated.” “The Arsonists” is Bromfield’s entry in the 2013 Massachusetts High School Drama Festival in March, which includes 115 one-act plays produced by member schools.
Last year’s silent auction included items such as a fine art photography print, a watercolor by internationally-acclaimed muralist Bruce Davidson, a delicious Harvard Sweet Boutique package, Fruitlands Museum and Russian Icons Museum passes, and a yoga package.
