The Bromfield indoor track team saw several outstanding performances at the Division 4 State Championship on Friday, Feb. 15, held at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury.
One week after being crowned Central Massachusetts champions in their individual events, Senior Patrick Griffin and Sophomore Price Day each raced to second place finishes at the state meet. Griffin finished a strong second in a very competitive race, posting his fastest time ever in the event at 1:23.61. That mark was roughly one second off the meet record set in 2005.
In the two mile, Sophomore Price Day again drew upon his strong finishing kick to pass several rivals in the last lap to claim the silver in his event. Day’s time of 9:49 was his personal best.
Other Bromfield boys who qualified for and competed in the very selective meet were Senior Roniel Foster in the 55 meter dash and the long jump, and the tandem of senior Glenn Steranka and junior Jake Valladares, who competed in the 55 meter hurdles. Bromfield also fielded teams in all three relay events: the 4×800, the 4×400 and the 4×200, with the latter team of Dan Colony, Steranka, Brendan Beale and Foster managing a strong 11th place finish, out of 36 teams in the event.
The girls team also qualified several athletes for the prestigious meet. Senior Moriah Arnold posted the 12th fastest time in the 55 meter hurdle event. Senior Alyssa Johnson competed in the shot put, and Senior Vishna Rasania participated in the long jump. The 4×200 relay team of Arnold, Emma Hall, Heather Flokos and Rasania finished tenth out of 26 teams, while the 4×400 team of Lilly Moore-Eisenberg, Bhavani Hodgkins, Sophia Collins, and Johnson finished 14th in their event.
Both Griffin and Day are slated to compete on Feb. 23 in the MIAA All-State meet, composed of the top 24 athletes in each event.
