In a tense duel against Oakmont Regional last Friday, the Bromfield boys emerged victorious in their first home basketball game of the season. Led by seniors Matt Griffin, Trevor Granville, and Kevin Sun, the boys scored 53 points to Oakmont’s 48.
Freshman Jake Frackiewicz, starting at point guard, scored 11 of Bromfield’s points, as did Granville.
“I think we are a very balanced team, especially with new players like Jake Frackiewicz,” said captain Kevin Sun. “I can tell we will have a good season.”
Bromfield was the first on the board, but the two teams went back and forth as the game progressed.
Bromfield scored 13 points in the first quarter and didn’t relent in the second, scoring 12. The third quarter, with 17 points, was Bromfield’s strongest.
The Trojans didn’t give up in the fourth quarter, even after three players were injured.
As Coach Tom Hill watched his team, shouting encouraging words, Granville was knocked to the ground as he went for a layup; it was not his first time in the game being pushed. Still, the Trojans held on for victory.
“I think the team played really well as a whole,” said junior Elijah Wood, a point guard who substituted for Frackiewicz throughout the game. “Everyone who stepped on the court contributed, which is why I think we have so much potential to do well this season.”
The Trojans played again at home this Wednesday, Dec. 19, against Burncoat. On Friday, Dec. 21, they play again on their home turf, against Narragansett.
