The Harvard School Committee has posted online a survey meant to give town residents a chance to weigh in on the search for a permanent superintendent of schools. Time is running out to take the survey. The deadline is 5 p.m. on Monday. We encourage everyone to take it.
Harvard’s schools are among the top in the state, by the metric of MCAS results, anyway (see our story on page 1). But the district is now in its second year without a permanent superintendent. Harvard’s best chance at maintaining its top standing is to secure the services of an experienced and strong leader.
A superintendent, whose salary comes from taxes, is answerable not only to parents of students. He or she must also be prepared to respond to the differing needs of community members. That’s where the survey comes in.
