Mindful Movement

Family Movie Night
It will once again be Family Movie Night at the Harvard Public Library Friday, Oct. 12, at 6:30 p.m., when the library will show a recent movie, rated PG, based on a book by Dr. Seuss. Popcorn and water will be served. Registration is requested so the librarians will know how much popcorn to buy.
Alicia Dwyer Exhibit
A reception for Still River artist Alicia Dwyer will be held Friday, Oct. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m., in conjunction with her exhibit “Dresses,” in Camilla Blackman Hall at Indian Hill Music, 36 King St. in Littleton. The exhibit, which features black and white oil paintings and works in metal by the artist, will run through October. Electronic Recycle Day
All are welcome to Electronic Recycle Day Saturday, Oct. 13, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the parking lot of the Congregational Church of Harvard. Any and all items with a plug or that take a battery will be accepted, as well as large and small appliances, lawn mowers, snow blowers with the gas removed, exercise equipment, and grills. Fees are $5 for each computer, $10 for any monitor or small TV less than 19″, $15 each for TVs between 19″ and 26″, $20 for each TV more than 26″ wide and wood console TVs, and $25 for each projection TV. Healing Garden Homecoming Celebration
The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden will host a Homecoming Celebration family event Saturday, Oct. 13, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for an afternoon of refreshments, music, movement, art, and an opportunity to learn more about the Healing Garden and the Just ‘Cause Walk. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and October 13 is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Visitors can learn how the Healing Garden helps neighbors who are experiencing cancer. Lego Club
The Harvard Public Library will host Lego Club for ages five and up Saturday, Oct. 13, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. for fun building Lego creations with other Harvard Lego fans. Day for Play: 5K and Fun Runs
Evergreen Garden Playschool will host A Day for Play 5K, Tots Trot, 1-mile Walk/Run, and Family Fair Sunday, Oct. 14, at 270 Barnum Road in Devens. The festivities will start at 10 a.m. with the Tots Trot, followed by a 1-mile walk/run at 10:30 a.m. and a 5K for youth and adults of all ages at 11 a.m. There will be music and games throughout the morning. Creatures of the Night at the Library
The Harvard Public Library will host “Creatures of the Night,” an event for all ages, Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 1:30 p.m. Rick from Creature Teachers will introduce some real nocturnal animals, including a skunk, porcupine, chinchilla, boa constrictor, tarantula, giant toad, and red-eyed tree frogs, and explain about animals that are active at night. Preregistration is requested.
Free Wellness Workshop

Bromfield Autumn Band Concert
The Bromfield School Music Department will be presenting its annual Autumn Band Concert on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. in the Cronin Auditorium at the Bromfield School, 14 Massachusetts Ave. The concert will feature a performance by every Bromfield Music Department wind band ensemble including the Grade Six Concert Band, the Grade Seven and Eight Symphonic Band, the High School Wind Ensemble, and the High School Jazz Ensemble. The general public is invited to this event, which is free of charge. This concert provides the first opportunity for students enrolled in Bromfield wind ensembles to perform for the 2012-13 school year. It will be conducted by Thomas E. Reynolds of the Bromfield faculty.
Fall Landscaping Talk
Mark Saydah, owner of Whole Earth Landscape and Design, will offer a free Fall Landscaping talk Friday, Oct. 19, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the second floor of the Appleworks Building at 325 Ayer Road. Saydah’s presentation will explain why fall is an ideal time for many landscape projects. It will also cover how to select the right plant for the right place, how to properly choose nursery plants, which species can be transplanted and when, what tools and supplies are needed, and successful care and management practices. There will be an opportunity to ask questions. Handouts and snacks will be provided. A free garden consultation and four hours of garden design will be raffled off. Gwendolyn, the Graceful Pig, a Reading and Dance Performance
Ballerinas from the Harvard Academy of Dance will join author David Ira Rottenberg for a reading and performance of “Gwendolyn, the Graceful Pig” for ages three to eight, Saturday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Harvard Public Library. After the performance, dancers will lead the children in the audience in a mini-movement lesson, followed by a photo session with the dancers. Children are invited to wear their favorite ballet or sports outfit and parents to bring a camera. The conclusion of the event will be a book sale and book signing. Registration is requested.

Comedy Hypnosis Show
A family comedy hypnosis show, to benefit the Bromfield Drama Society, will be hosted by master hypnotist Peter Mamos, who promises to amaze and amuse, Saturday, Oct 27, 7:30 p.m. in Cronin Auditorium. ‘The Last Mountain’ at Bolton Library
Bolton Energy Committee and Bolton Local will cohost a free screening of the award-winning documentary “The Last Mountain” Thursday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. at the Bolton Public Library. “The Last Mountain” exposes the practice of mountaintop-removal coal mining in Appalachia, and reveals the devastating effects on communities and the environment in a quest to supply electricity in the U.S.
