Bare Hill Pond drawdown

The Bare Hill Pond Watershed Management Committee has initiated the drawdown of the pond pursuant to the order of conditions issued by the Conservation Commission.

Because the pond is below normal, the pond committee has established a schedule for the drawdown that absent rainfall that refills the pond, will likely mean that actual drawing down may not begin until the end of September per the following schedule.

  • Sept. 24: 0 inches
  • Oct. 1: 12 inches
  • Oct. 15: 24 inches
  • Oct. 24: 30 inches
  • Oct. 28: 36 inches
  • Nov. 30: 6 feet (or maximum depth before first freeze)

As in prior years, the drawdown will occur at a rate not to exceed 2 inches per day.

Public health alert

Mosquito-borne diseases are proliferating in the area and, according to the Harvard Board of Health, every resident must take preventive measures to reduce the likelihood of contracting the potentially lethal Eastern equine encephalitis.
