Number of kindergarten sections still tentative
Kindergarten enrollment for next fall stands at 52, interim Superintendent Joe Connelly told the School Committee. However, he said, the possibility of additional students enrolling over the summer leaves open the question of whether to have three or four kindergarten classes.
Harvard’s guidelines on class size call for 15 to 18 students per section at kindergarten. Currently, only three teachers are listed for kindergarten because Cindy Hansen voluntarily transferred to second grade. But, Connelly emphasized, it is still possible that there will be four sections in the fall.
Connelly advised the committee that kindergarten is the level at which small class size is most crucial.
