Fourth of July schedule
Harvard’s Fourth of July celebration will start on Tuesday, July 3, with fireworks at Fruitlands, starting at 5 p.m. (rain date will be Friday, July 6). Local bands will perform, and there will be food, drinks, desserts, and glow sticks made available for purchase by Fruitlands, the Girl Scouts, and Fireside Catering.
Also, there will be t-shirts sold by the 4th of July committee. Fireworks will go off at 9:15 p.m. Parking fees will be $20, $10 if someone in the car is wearing a 2012 4th of July T-shirt.
All parking fees and T-shirt sales will go toward supporting the 4th of July fireworks, parade, and activities.
On July 4, the bike decorating competition will be held on the common at 10:30 a.m. The parade will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the field events in front of the library. Food and drinks will be available for purchase from the Lions Club.
The Great Harvard Fourth of July 5-mile Race is on Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. at the Hildreth Elementary School. Registration opens at 6:30 a.m. The one-mile fun run is at 9:30 a.m. To register online before the race, and for more information, visit www.harvardraces.org.
Registration open for Harvard Soccer Club
Registration for the Harvard Soccer Club’s fall 2012 season is now open at www.harvardsoccer.org. Click on “Register Online” to register.
For U10 and up, register by June 30 to avoid any late fee. Players registered after this date will be placed on a wait list.
Play a character at Fruitlands
Fruitlands Museum welcomes community members to help fill its mile-long trail on Thursday, Oct. 5, with the personalities of Bronson Alcott, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Mother Ann Lee, and King Philip, for instance, as well as with children who lived at Fruitlands and in the Shaker village here in the 19th century. Fiction writers group seeks new members
Be part of a writing community (the oldest established permanent floating writers group in the area, according to its members). Members are from Harvard and nearby towns. Flea Market scheduled for Columbus Day weekend
The 41st annual Harvard Flea Market will be on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Rain date, Sunday, Oct. 7). More information is available at www.harvardfleamarket.com.
Flyers with detailed information and booth applications will be mailed in late July or early August to all Harvard/Still River residents and to booth holders from the past two years. Booths will be available by mail only on a first-come, first-served basis. Payment must accompany the application.
