Longtime resident, school director
Martha Ann (Gundersen) McCune, 83, formerly of Blanchard Road, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at her residence surrounded by her family.
Her husband of 50 years, Roland E. McCune, died in December 1997.
Martha is also predeceased by her daughter Lois Waite who passed in 2003, and both of her sisters, Daisy McCune and Ruth Perkins.
Martha is survived by her daughter Jan McCune of Bolton, where she lived her last five years; a brother, Norman Gundersen, of Boxborough; two grandsons, Brian Waite and Cory Waite; three great granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
Martha was born in Harvard, Feb. 7, 1929, the daughter of the late Joseph and Harriett Gundersen and was a lifelong resident of Harvard.
She was educated in the Harvard school system, graduating from Bromfield High School in 1945, and also earned a bachelor’s degree in education as well as double master’s degree in education from Fitchburg State College.
She began her professional career in 1961 as a teacher and in 1973, Martha was appointed to be the director of the Ayer Community Kindergarten and Nursery School in Ayer. She retired from ACKNS in 1996.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at Bellevue Cemetery, Still River Road (Route 110), in Harvard.
There are no calling hours.
Following the service we will be gathering for a celebration of Martha’s life at her daughter’s home in Bolton.
