Over the last two weekends many residents from Harvard participated in the joyous transfer of intellectual wealth known as the Friends of the Harvard Public Library book sale.
Thanks to the many Harvard residents who donated and bought thousands of books for the sale. Even with the recent appearance of book collection boxes in town, we sold a great number of books.
Thanks to the Old Library Pilot Project for allowing us to use the old library. It is the ideal location; appreciated by volunteers and customers alike.
It is important to point out that the book sale profits are returned to the people of Harvard by funding library activities including children’s programs, the new Universal Class online courses, the Consumer Reports Online subscription, Friends of the Arts performances, museum passes, and the second annual scholarship in honor of a great friend of the library, Dr. Jeff Harris.
Special thanks to our tireless volunteers for hundreds of hours it takes to make this event. They gave up mornings, afternoons, and a couple of evenings to help sort books and work at the sale. The Friends of the Harvard Public Library Committee was also heavily involved in the planning and execution of the sale: Deborah Sauvé, Kathy Boisvert, Vicki Maxant, Gwen Cook, and Maureen Remeika gave their time, talent and energy.
